Ellijay’s Little Italian: A Downtown Lunch Date Worth Savoring

Why Is Ellijay’s Little Italian Becoming a Must-Stop Downtown Eatery?

One of my favorite parts of living and working in Ellijay is discovering local spots that add so much character to our downtown. Recently, my husband and I slipped away for a quick lunch date at Ellijay’s Little Italian, a charming Italian restaurant located directly across from the downtown parking area. From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place is quickly earning its reputation as a go-to destination for savory Italian favorites in Ellijay.

We were warmly greeted by the restaurant’s manager, William, who immediately made us feel welcome. Even better, he took time to walk us through the menu and share what locals and regulars love most. His enthusiasm alone was enough to make us hungry.

A Closer Look at the Savory Menu at Ellijay’s Little Italian

Ellijay’s Little Italian specializes in New York–style pizza, Italian sandwiches, paninis, and classic comfort flavors. Since this visit was all about lunch, we focused on their savory options (with plans to return for a full dessert feature later).

William suggested the meatball hero for my husband—a classic choice and one of his personal favorites. I opted for the manager’s special, the “Bata Boom” a creative twist on their original Italian panini called the “Bata Bing.” While we waited, William hand-made both sandwiches from scratch, which we loved seeing.

As we explored the space, we noticed fresh pizzas spinning on the counter and an impressive ice cream bar showcasing a variety of Italian ice creams and treats. We settled into a cozy corner booth near the front, soaking in the relaxed downtown vibe.

Hot, Fresh, and Generously Portioned

Just minutes later, our lunch arrived hot, fresh, and generously portioned.

  • The Bata Boom was a delightful Italian style panini with 3 meats, 3 cheeses, and pesto all perfectly pressed on rye. it was served with a large helping of their pasta salad, which was bright, flavorful, and satisfying and a side of a tasty garlic sauce.
  • The Meatball Hero came beautifully toasted, layered with melted cheese, and served with chips.

These sandwiches are filling, and if you’re planning to save room for something sweet, they’re absolutely large enough to split.

New York–Style Pizza That Truly Delivers

Before we could even think about dessert, William surprised us with a slice of their New York–style cheese pizza. My husband, who takes his pizza very seriously, declared it one of the best New York–style slices he’s had. That alone earns Ellijay’s Little Italian serious points in our book.

I’m already planning a return visit with my son, who proudly considers himself a cheese-pizza connoisseur. Once he weighs in, I’ll be sure to report back.

A Sweet Finale Worth a Return Visit

Although this blog focuses on savory favorites, we couldn’t resist ending our meal with one dessert—and it completely stole the show. On William’s recommendation, we tried the cappuccino pie, served on a platter with a thick, brownie-like crust, cappuccino mousse, and a rich chocolate ganache topping.

It was absolutely delightful and easily one of the best desserts we’ve had downtown. Honestly, it inspired an entirely separate blog idea focused just on sweet treats. Ellijay’s Little Italian may very well become the downtown dessert destination.

The Story Behind Ellijay’s Little Italian

What makes this spot even more special is the story behind it. The owner, Fran, stopped by our table to personally greet us and share a bit about the restaurant’s roots. Ellijay’s Little Italian was started by a wonderful woman who spent many years as a chef in New York City—and yes, she’s Italian. That authentic background shines through in every bite.
